Entry into the EU from non-EU countries or territories
The rabies antibody titration test required for dogs, cats and ferrets entering the EU from a non-EU country or territory included in the list set out in the table in Annex VIII, Part 1 to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404, and for which the specific condition “rabies antibody titration test” in column 5 of that table applies, must be performed in:
- an official laboratory designated in accordance with Article 37 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 (Official Controls Regulation), or
- a laboratory in a third country or territory listed in Annex VIII of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404, designated in line with Article 37(4) and (5) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625.
These laboratories must therefore be specifically accredited for performing this analytical method.
Non-commercial movement into the EU from non-EU countries or territories
For dogs, cats, and ferrets entering an EU Member State from a non-EU country or territory not listed in Annex I or II of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/636, a rabies antibody titration test is required.
This test must be carried out by:
- an official laboratory designated in accordance with Article 37 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 (Official Controls Regulation), or
- a laboratory in a third country or territory listed in Annex VIII of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404, designated in line with Article 37(4) and (5) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625.
In all cases, only laboratories specifically accredited for this analytical method are permitted to carry out the test.
