About BOVEX
Regulation (EU) 2016/429 (Animal Health Law – AHL) lays down the possibility of recognising the electronic exchange of bovine identification data across databases.
BOVEX is a specific interface linked to TRACES to allow automatic exchange of those bovine identification data across relevant national databases.
The objective is to digitise the data, save time and avoid errors while introducing the data into national databases upon reception of cattle.
According to Article 110(1)(b) of the AHL, the competent authority shall issue identification documents in respect of bovine animals as required by point (b) of Article 112 of that Regulation, unless Member States exchange electronic data with other Member States within the framework of an electronic exchange system from the date when the Commission recognises the full operability of that system.
As laid down in Article 8 of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/520 supplementing the AHL on traceability of terrestrial animals, Member States exchanging electronically identification document data through BOVEX shall be recognised as having a system of full operability.
