When brine shrimp (sea monkeys) (Artemia spp.) cysts are imported as live animals they must be presented at a BCP approved to accept live animals for veterinary checks. However, as Artemia spp. are not listed in the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1882, they fall outside the scope of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/692 and it is therefore, for the importing EU-country to consider whether animal health conditions have to be respected in accordance with their national legislation.
However, when brine shrimps are imported as dead and intended for feeding to farmed animals, they are subjected to certification requirements in accordance with national rules, according to Regulation (EU) 142/2011, Annex XIV, Chapter IV, Section 2. In case the brine shrimps are intended for feeding to ornamental animals they must be imported with the model certificate of Regulation (EU) 142/2011, annex XV.3B
