Thematic sub-groups

The EU platform operates in sub-groups to examine specific aspects and/or questions related to food waste prevention. Access to the sub-groups is restricted to selected members of the Platform, based on their interest and knowledge.

Action & implementation sub-group
The sub-group supports Platform members and the Commission in identifying and implementing effective, evidence-based interventions to reduce food loss and waste.
Consumer food waste prevention sub-group
The sub-group supports Platform members and the in identifying and implementing effective, evidence-based interventions to promote consumer behavioural change and raise awareness concerning food waste generation.
Food donation sub-group
The sub-group on food donation supports Platform members and the Commission to facilitate safe food donation practices, ensuring that surplus food arising in the food supply chain is made available, as a priority, for human consumption, in line with the food use hierarchy.
Food loss and waste monitoring sub-group
The sub-group supports Platform members and the Commission in sharing information on food loss and waste measurement and monitoring activities carried out by national authorities and actors in the food value chain and monitoring food waste levels.

Sub-group meetings are co-chaired by the Commission and Platform members appointed based on their expertise and expressed interest to coordinate work related to their field of expertise. By fostering the exchange of information, experience and good practices, the sub-groups will boost the achievement of concrete results by the Platform.

Sub-group meetings dedicated to specific topics usually take place twice per year, on-site, online, or in a hybrid format, and may in addition be convened on an ‘as needed’ basis.
