The EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste operates in sub-groups to examine specific aspects and/or questions related to food waste prevention. Access to the sub-groups is restricted to selected members of the Platform, based on their interest and knowledge.
Sub-group meetings are co-chaired by the Commission and Platform members appointed based on their expertise and expressed interest to coordinate work related to their field of expertise. By fostering the exchange of information, experience and good practices, the sub-groups will boost the achievement of concrete results by the Platform.
In the second mandate of the Platform (2022-2026), the four existent thematic sub-groups – a) Food donation; b) Food loss and waste monitoring; c) Date marking and food waste prevention and d) Action & implementation – will continue their activities. A fifth sub-group has been created to focus on consumer food waste prevention, a priority area of intervention given that households generate more than half of the total food waste in the EU (Eurostat, 2022).
Sub-group meetings dedicated to specific topics usually take place twice per year and may in addition be convened on an ‘as needed’ basis.
