Russian import ban on EU products

On 6 August 2014 the Russian president signed a decree "On the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation".

The decree prohibits for one year import into the territory of the Russian Federation of certain agricultural products, raw materials and foodstuffs originating from certain countries.

On 7 August 2014 the Russian government issued decision No. 778 defining the list of products banned and the countries concerned which includes all EU Member States

The list of banned products was modified by the Russian government decision of 20 August 2014 No. 830

The embargo was extended until 5 August 2016 by the Russian government decision of 25 June 2015 No. 625 which also modified the list of banned products

The Decision was further modified on 27 May 2016 by means of Decision No. 472 to provide for possibility to import certain products under the embargo if destined for the production of baby food.

A further prolongation of the embargo until 31 December 2017 was introduced by the Presidential Decree No. 305 of 29 June 2016:

On 30 June 2017 the validity of the embargo was again prolonged until 31 December 2018 by the Presidential Decree No. No. 293

On 25 October 2017 the Russian Government with its decree No. 1292 extended the scope of the embargo to live pigs (except if purebred and destined for breeding) and to fat and offal of certain animals (except if intended for the production of pharmaceuticals).

On 12 July 2018 the validity of the embargo was further prolonged until 31 December 2019 by the Presidential Decree No. 420

On 24 June 2019 the validity of the embargo was further prolonged until 31 December 2020 by the Presidential Decree No. 293
