Maximum levels have been established for citrinin in food supplements based on rice fermented with red yeast Monascus purpureaus by Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 of 19 December 2006 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs.

Monitoring recommendations agreed at the Standing Committee
Following the conclusions of EFSA opinions, the Standing Committee agreed on recommendations for monitoring of the following mycotoxins (in addition to published Commission Recommendations): sterigmatocystin, ergot alkaloids, phomopsins, citrinin and Alternaria toxins.
