Legislation:

Maximum levels have been established for citrinin in food supplements based on rice fermented with red yeast Monascus purpureaus by Commission Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 of 19 December 2006 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs.

Commission Regulation (EC) No 401/2006 of 23 February 2006 laying down the methods of sampling and analysis for the official control of the levels of mycotoxins in foodstuffs

Commission Recommendation 2012/154/EU of 15 March 2012 on the monitoring of the presence of ergot alkaloids in feed and food.

Monitoring recommendations agreed at the Standing Committee

Following the conclusions of EFSA opinions, the Standing Committee agreed on recommendations for monitoring of the following mycotoxins (in addition to published Commission Recommendations): sterigmatocystin, ergot alkaloids, phomopsins, citrinin and Alternaria toxins.
